Gemini Notebook
Google’s research assistant (formerly NotebookLM) that answers only from your own documents – with citations.
What it does
You create a notebook and add sources: PDFs, Google Docs and Slides, web pages, YouTube videos or audio files. The assistant answers questions based only on that material and shows the passage in the original for every statement. From your documents it creates summaries, flashcards, mind maps and spoken overviews in a podcast style. The tool was called NotebookLM until July 2026.
Who it suits
Getting to grips with a topic, preparing workshops or working through extensive tenders and studies – wherever answers should come from specific documents rather than the web.
Data protection for businesses
With a Google Workspace account, Google does not use uploaded content, questions or answers for training, no human reviewers read them, and the Workspace agreements apply. With personal Google accounts, Google does not train on your data either unless you give feedback; after a rating, Google may review the whole conversation including sources. Confidential documents therefore belong in a Workspace account.
Limits
The number of notebooks and sources is capped per plan, and copy-protected PDFs cause problems.
