A toolbox for AI video: generate clips from text or images, change scenes and upscale to 4K.
What it does
Runway generates short video clips from a description or a starting image and keeps characters and locations recognisable across shots. Existing footage can be changed, extended and upscaled to 4K. On top come image generation, music, sound effects and voices, plus brand kits so colours and logos are right. An API lets you build the models into your own applications.
Who it suits
Creative teams and agencies that need animatics, social media clips, product visualisations or backgrounds without shooting every scene.
Data protection for businesses
Processing takes place in the USA; the vendor does not mention an option for Europe. Runway is certified to SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. According to the terms of use, Runway may use inputs and outputs to train its models. Only on the Enterprise plan does the vendor commit to not training on customer data – the right route for confidential material.
Limits
Billing uses credits that expire with each billing cycle on the Standard and Pro plans (on Max they roll over for one month); the starter credits in the free tier are one-off. Longer coherent scenes and precise movements take many attempts.
